The Vaughn Stone-lined Electric Water Heater
The Vaughn stone-lined electric water heater has achieved an unequaled market reputation for durability and reliability. Its Hydrastone lining has proven to be the most effective method of preventing tank corrosion in any kind of water condition in North America. Nearly one million Vaughn heaters have been used by electric utilities in existing rental programs.
Many thousands of Vaughn heaters are more than 20 years old. Long life and reliability are the simple reasons why so many utilities use Vaughn. Consider this: the longer the heater lasts, the more profit for the utility. Rental payments which continue beyond the amortization (or lease) period of the heater are pure profit.
Vaughn has many utility customers who have used their heaters exclusively for over 40 years and can testify to the longevity of the product and the positive effect it has had on the profitability of their rental programs.
More than long life, the Vaughn heater is specifically designed for off-peak and rental applications with such unique features as internal heat traps, cold water inlet diffusers, and hand hole clean out openings, to name a few. The Vaughn heater is not made for the mass market, it is specifically made for electric utility rental programs.
The Vaughn Energy Controller - Not only Reliable but SMART!
As most of their heaters are operated off-peak, Vaughn developed a controller, integral to the heater, specifically designed to allow the utility to install a controlled heater and save the cost of a second service call to install a control. This energy controller can often serve to eliminate high-priced, multi-dialed electric meters and radio controllers.
Vaughn is the only manufacturer of a SMART water heater. The intelligence comes from their patented Multi-Controller. The Multi-Controller is a microprocessor driven control mounted on the heater, powered by 240v, which interrupts power to the heater at utility specified times. It is the only controller which is designed by and for the utilities. As such, the Multi-Controller is flexible enough to handle any off-peak or TOU rate schedule. Programming flexibility includes such features as seasons, holidays, weekends, leap years, randomized start-ups, cold load pickup delays, and three different override modes. The most unique feature of the Multi-Controller is a patent pending feature called the Phoenix Circuit, which allows the controller to re-program itself in the event of line noise or lightning interference.
The Multi-Controller is programmed at the factory and installed along with the heater. There are no additional installation charges. The heater is now operating according to the utility rate schedule without further action or cost on the part of the utility.
The Multi-Controller can be verified or re-programmed from outside the home with an outdoor module. In addition, the Multi-Controller can accept whatever remote programming medium you wish to use.
Since 1987, Vaughn has been working directly with utilities throughout North America perfecting the Multi-Controller. To date, there are more than 150,000 water heaters being controlled by the Multi-Controller in the US and Canada.
